RSCM

May 2011

Dear friend,

We hope you had a wonderful Easter and enjoyed the Royal Wedding! If you've been inspired by the occasion, why not visit the RSCM's wedding page for all you need to plan a church wedding?

'Sing we merrily' for Music Sunday

RSCM Image

We're delighted that Malcolm Archer has composed a special anthem for RSCM Music Sunday. Discounts on copies of Sing we merrily are available when you register your Music Sunday event.

You may also like to sing a hymn specially composed for the 75th anniversary of the Hymn Society.

RSCM Music Sunday takes place on 26 June (or an alternative convenient date) and helps to raise funds for your own church or school and the RSCM. How will you be celebrating?

King James composers announced

Musical settings of words from Proverbs, Isaiah and Revelation have been shortlisted for the King James Bible Composition Awards . Young composers Andrew-John Bethke, Thomas Hewitt Jones, Owain Park and Christopher Totney have had their anthems selected in Category A of the Awards, administered by the RSCM. The finals will take place on Tuesday 17 May at Temple Church, London.

The RSCM's Festival service book The Word Revealed, celebrating 400 years of the King James Bible, sold so well we had to reprint it within a few months.

New from RSCM Education and RSCM Press, Water of Life is the RSCM's Young Voices Festival for 2011. The service includes a varied selection of hymns, songs, prayers and readings celebrating God's physical and spiritual gift of water, and is an ideal resource for choirs supporting WaterAid's 'Sing for Water' project throughout the year.

There's still time to apply for our brand new degree launching in September 2011 – and take advantage of tuition fees at current levels. The Foundation Degree programme provides an exciting mix of practical and academic study at Canterbury Christ Church University with local support from the RSCM. A new Mass by Margaret Rizza

RSCM Image

Margaret Rizza recently introduced her new Mass of St Benedict at an RSCM workshop. Setting the new translation of the Missal, the setting is easy for congregations to pick up, yet profound in its spirituality.
Mass of Saint Benedict is available now from the RSCM shop.

  • Further musical resources and notes about the new Roman Missal can be found on the ICEL website.
