Dear friend,
Greetings from the RSCM. For some of our supporters, July and August bring opportunities for rest and relaxation. For others it's a time of music and fellowship at summer courses – while in the southern hemisphere, musical and church life are in full swing. Wherever in the world you are, we hope you enjoy our latest newsletter and find ideas and inspiration for the weeks ahead.

Watch Celebration Day on Songs of Praise
Last week's episode of BBC's Songs of Praise featured the RSCM – including Aled Jones being presented with his HonRSCM Award, footage of Celebration Day and the RSCM Millennium Youth Choir. You can watch the programme on BBC iplayer until Sunday.
- Look out for an interview with Aled in September's edition of CMQ.
The MYC and chances to hear RSCM singers
The RSCM Millennium Youth Choir is 10 years old! Former members are invited to the anniversary events in October and Lord Carey will preach at a thanksgiving service – go to the MYC website for information.
There are plenty of opportunities to listen to RSCM choirs at summer courses during August. Visit the RSCM website for a list of services and public concerts.
Young composers to set King James texts...
Entries are now being accepted for the King James Bible Composition Awards, a joint project between the RSCM, Royal College of Music and Westminster Abbey to encourage new settings of the King James texts in the 400th anniversary of the translation. The Royal College of Music is running a series of masterclasses in the autumn in conjuction with the Awards.
- See full details of this exciting opportunity for young composers plus dates of RCM masterclasses.
- Visit the 2011 Trust website for news of celebrations and events to promote the Bible in 2011.
... plus competitions for young singers
Young singers who regularly take part in worship are encouraged to enter this year's competition to become the BBC's Young Chorister of the Year – the deadline is fast approaching on 31 July.
Meanwhile, BBC Songs of Praise has launched the 2011 School Choir of the Year competition.
A search for the best hymn or song
To mark the publication of Sing Praise in September 2010, the Church Times in association with the RSCM is searching for the best hymn or song used in worship today –
one whose words and music combine to lift worship and express profound truths. This is not a quest for the 'most popular' or 'favourite' hymn! Vote for your choice here.
Survey for organ teachers
The RCO and St Giles International Organ School are inviting organ teachers to complete a questionnaire to help them develop new resources. Complete the survey here.
